The Farnborough blind company was one of the earliest adopters of blind automation, we have been providing the option of motorised control to our product range since the early 1990’s. The original technology was large, time consuming to manufacture and expensive. However increasing customer demand over time has lead to rapid advancement of the technology of motorised blind systems, to the present day market we are able to offer more sophisticated, affordable and discrete motorised control options across the full range of blind and shutter types.
In fact such has been the growth of the electric blind industry that at Farnborough blinds we now receive 60% of our annual turnover from electric blind sales and have a dedicated research and design department, which has proven essential in keeping up to date with the changing requirements of our clients.
Our clients requirements have long since exceeded simply supplying a motorised blind with a hardwired wall switch. The smart homes and offices we now supply insist on blinds becoming part of the network of the building, integrating with intelligent control systems, such as Control4, Lutron or Crestron. Human input in the day to day control of blinds is now minimised and in some installations done away with all together. Blinds are linked to thermostats, alarm systems, light sensors and AV equipment, for example in a home cinema room, simply setting a DVD to play will turn on your cinema screen, dim your lighting, close your blackout blinds and set your sound system to the right mode.
Whilst historically home cinema and lighting has been the main push in home automation development, these days whole home and office control is the driving force in the advancement of the technology, with concerns over energy efficiency and security a main focus. Intelligent buildings linked to thermostats and lux sensors will trigger blinds with changes in sunlight, to maintain a comfortable environment throughout the day, significantly reducing lighting, heating and air conditioning costs.
