Thermalight inserts -Polycarbonate solar inserts

Clear Thermalight inserts upgrade polycarbonte roofs to the same specification as the best solar glass. They can cut out up to 80% of the sun's heat and provide winter insulation to make conservatories and roof light areas cool, comfortable and glare-free in summer and warmer in winter. Fitted inside the roof section and virtually invisible, they are practical, effective and durable.

PERFORMANCE

In summer 70% of the sun's heat and glare enters the conservatory through the roof. Polycarbonate and other plastic roofed conservatories are susceptible to problems of heat and glare because; they generally have lower ceiling heights lower than 2.5 m which means the air heats up rapidly, it is difficult to install adequate ventilation because of problems of leaks, and severe glare results from internal reflections of sunlight inside the hollow roof section.

Internal blinds are less effective because they deal with the problem after the heat has entered the conservatory.

BBSA

External blinds and solar film, although effective, suffer from poor durablilty and may require dismantling of the roof and the invalidation of roof guarantees.

Thermalight high performance inserts provide the solution. They are simply installed inside the hollow section of the roof next to its upper/outer surface. They eliminate, by reflection, up to 80% of the sun's heat, resulting in dramatic reductuions in room temperatures and elimination of glare.

SUMMER HEAT

In conservatories where temperatures have risen to 120F or more, reductions 45F have been achieved (see graph right).

Thermalight transparent inserts have the same performance as external blinds and th ebest solar glass

GLARE

Particularly restful on the eyes because glare is dramatically reduced.

WINTER INSULATION

Heat is reflected back resulting in reductions of up to 20% in heat loss, lower fuel bills, and increased warmth in unheated conservatories.

FADING

Solar inserts proglong the life of furnishings by eliminating up to 99% of ultra violet rays, the major cause of fading

DURABILITY

Solar inserts are installed internally ans therefore fully protected from the elements. It requires no maintenance or cleaning, is fully guaranteed and has a life expectancy equal to that of the roof.

APPLICATION

All overhead plastic roof areas where a simply installed, lightweight, durable and maintenance-free solution is required to eliminate heat and glare.

INSTALLATION

In conservatories the facia board and endcaps are simply removed so that the Thermalight transparent film inserts can be positioned in the roof section. The inserts are applied in a similar way in other types of roof. There is no limitation on the length and size of roof section as long as the end of the chamber is accessable. However, where a valley exists it may be necessary to remove some of the roof panels to access the end of the chamber. In most cases it is not necessary to enter the house or remove furniture when installing the product. Inserts can be fitted at the factory prior to erection of the conservatory roof or on site.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

No mainteneance or cleaning is necessary because inserts are fitted internally and therefore become an integral part of the roof and will have a life equal to that of the roof.

MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURE

The clear heat and glare control inserts are based on extruded polyester films within which are sandwiched finely divided metals and metal oxides. These transmit or reflect chosen wavelengths of light and heat radiation to provide excellent optics and the highest technical performance.

Supplied in rolls to match the size of cavity in polycarbanate, which are light and easy to handle. Inserts are unrolled from these and cut to size or directly inserted into the roof then trimmed.

  INSTALLATION GUIDE

STEP 1
Arrange a comfortable working height about level with the gutter. Remove end caps that may be slotted or screwed on.

STEP 2
If there is a plastic 'U' shaped drip edge fitted remove by pulling with hands. If drip edges are fitted with silicone they may need gently levering off with a large flat headed screwdriver.

STEP 3
If there is breather tape fitted, peel off and clean the edges of the polycarbonate so that new breather tape can be fitted

STEP 4
To ease the fitting of the inserts spray silicone inside the top cells of polyacarbonate. the amount of spray required varies with the length of run and should evaporate to leave no residue.

STEP 5
Place a reel of insert material into a large pocket below the height of the polycarbonate and in line with the channel to be inserted. Punch a central hole at the end of the insert.

STEP 6
Push the end of the installation rod through the punched hole, with the insert on top of the installation rod, the embossed side should face up. Slide the insert up the top cavity keeping pressure on the rod until it reaches the end of the cavity. As insert is drawn up use finger and thumb to form an arc as it enters the cavity.
STEP 7
IRemove rod and cut insert flush with polycarbonate.
STEP 8
Check all cavities have been filled correctly from inside the conservatory.
STEP 9
Once all the inserts have been fitted, refit the breather tape.
STEP 10
Replace 'U' channel and end cap.
